going greener.

We get closer and closer all the time. We’ve finally abandoned all “non-green” cleaning supplies. It feels good. This time, it even smells good. It’s called Simple Green and it’s a multi-purpose household cleaner.

Thanks to the Home Depot on Lake that is going out of business, we bought three clay pots, a couple of large bags of organic compost and planted some herbs and flowers for our balcony. I can’t wait to see the tiny sprouts start peeking out in a few weeks.

One of my absolute favorite green companies is ::method::. Kuddos to them for making cleaning your house green and fun. Method has gained popularity not just through their green status; they’ve also won tons of recognition because of their packaging. Yum!

innovation.

I am a frequent visitor of TheDieline: The Leading Package Design Blog. The author, Andrew Gibbs, keeps the blog up-to-date, sometimes posting multiple times a day. It is amazing source of inspiration for not only packaging, but the newest and most innovative things going on in design.

One thing I’ve noticed is that some of the most innovative packages can be found in the alcohol industry, more specifically vodka. This packaging is absolutely gorgeous; I just can’t keep from staring.

hi. i’m a mac.

I found this today at work while searching for a good picture of a laptop that I didn’t have to pay for. Too good to pass. (Please note the PhoneNet connector and cool casual denim shirt.) Just goes to show, Apple has always defined cool.

So if you see me in an untucked white wash denim shirt with several scratched floppy disks hanging out of my backpack, and talking on a Nokia 100 cell phone, you’ll know where my allegiance lies.

bright eyes.

While listening to Weekend America on NPR this morning on my way back to Fort Wayne, I was introduced to a new band. Bright Eyes. I’ve only listened to a couple of their songs so far, but I absolutely love their sound. I wasn’t able to find a link to any of their songs, but they do have quite a few albums on Napster. One of thecoolest facts about the band is that the lead singer originated from Omaha, NE, about 2 hours from where I grew up.

re-found.

I stumbled across one of my favorite websites again today. I say “stumbled across” because every time I find this site I spend a considerable amount of time on it, yet somehow forget to add it to my “Favorite Sites” folder. The site is Design View by Andy Rutledge.

Andy doesn’t write horribly often, but when he does, the articles are always interesting, educating, and relevant to people in the design community.

Check it out, you won’t be dissappointed.

simple shoes

This morning my husband found a great company online called Simple Shoes. The shoes they produce are completely sustainable and made out of things like recycled tires, PET plastics, hemp and 100% cotton.

Each page contains clever sayings such as “ecoSneaks have all of that sneakery stuff you like plus they’ve been smothered in sustainable goodness.” and “Why buy carbon offsets when you can change your ways for free?”.

Now if they would just come out with some shoes with heals….
