YOU’RE INVITED…

ipfw-bfa-exhibition

As if most people who stop by my blog don’t already know, I will be graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design in May. Design students are required to explore a thesis topic and put together an exhibition based upon the thesis. My thesis explores how people interact with typography and is titled Faces.

I was also asked to be a part of the team to promote the show, along with Andrea Harvey and Erica Coffing. Below is the statement that explains the idea and inspiration behind our promotional material:

“We designed the promotional materials for this semester’s VCD BFA Exhibition to bring to the forefront both the artists’ work and the artists themselves, giving a human face to the exhibition. The personalized portraits of each artist endeavor to capture the individuality of every person that makes up our Student Body. By combining these artists in our own photographic versions of the ‘exquisite corpse’ we aim to comment on the artistic experience that each artist contributes to every other student in their graduating class. We shape and expand the work of those around us by lending a part of our talents towards this shared experience of learning.”

This semester, the exhibition will be held at the Krull Gallery inside the Allen County Public Library in downtown Fort Wayne. The opening reception for the show is Friday, April 10 from 7:00 – 9:00pm. Show run dates are April 10 – April 30.

Hope to see a few of you there!

BFA EXHIBITION TEASER

Today I presented my senior thesis project to the faculty. It’s a huge stress relief to have it over with, but I still have details to finish.

If you couldn’t already tell, I’m trying to restrain my excitement and not post my entire show on my blog before opening night, but I thought I’d allow myself one last “sneak peak”

Enjoy!

SOUL PANCAKE

soulpancake

Found a great new site on Twitter today called SoulPancake. It’s started by Rainn Wilson and here is what he has to say

What is SoulPancake?

Hi. I’m Rainn Wilson. I’m an actor. I helped create this here Web site, SoulPancake.

What is SoulPancake? Well, it’s more of a mission than a Web site…

We want to make discussions about Spirituality, Creativity, and Philosophy cool again. Were they ever cool? I have no idea. But it seems like a good idea. We want to engage the user to “Chew on Life’s Big Questions”™. (I was kidding about the ™ symbol; you can use that phrase however you want. Even to sell frozen taquitos.) Where do you go on the Interwebs if you want an irreverent, fun, and profound take on God and Art and the Soul and Faith and Beauty? Fox.com? Maybe. But maybe also here at SoulPancake.com.

We provide some rockin’ content (interviews, blogs, challenges, contests, features, and more), but it’s really all about having YOU—the SoulPancake community—bring this site to life. Say what’s on your mind. Be real. Talk about WHY WE’RE HERE. And if I say something that offends you, let me have it.

Just remember: Life is a rich, weird, difficult experience. So join us as we go on the spiritual and artistic journey that is SoulPancake.”

TAPE ON SUNGLASSES? SIGN ME UP!

Too good to be true. Found this via Gizmodo.

azumianddavid_glasses_tape1

What is the worst product idea you’ve ever heard? Now double it. We’re talking about sunglasses that tape on, and yes, they’re real.

Starting this spring, hipster-fashion-tape-design-company Azumi & David will sell you sunglasses tape. We’d like to believe that the sticky ribbon is merely intended to spruce up a shirt or a bag, you know, with the treasured facade of casually dangling glasses. We’d like to believe that.

But you know what? At minimum, two poor Azumi & David models are penciling in their eye expressions as we speak.
