JANUARY ROUNDUP
Below are a few of my favorites from the January design challenge of a quote a day (or at least every work day). Are there any I haven’t included here that you like?

Absolutely in love with this video featuring Repeat Press of Somerville, MA. They created some custom coasters for Highsnobiety and Selectism to hand out for the holidays. It’s such an intricate process and the gorgeous finished products makes me want to take a bite out of those coasters. Mmmm!
Now for the rest of the evening, I’ll either be on Briar Press searching for a letterpress I can afford, or trying to find a letterpress boutique that’s hiring.

Despite some teasing, I have always really liked U2. I’ve had Bullet the Blue Sky in my head most of the day, but the One Tree Hill letters just looked better in this composition. Plus, it’s got an extremely emotional story behind it and the sound reflects that. More history behind the lyrics in the design below…
My husband and I fell in love with Bret and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords a couple of years ago. They are just generally funny guys. Design #19 was inspired when the lyrics to Hiphopopotamus Vs. Rhymenoceros jumped into my head at 5:30am this morning. (I went to bed at 9:30pm last night, so yes, that is an acceptable time to be awake.)
The poster was mainly created in Illustrator and I pulled it into Photoshop to add texture. The font is Neighborhood.
Probably one of my favorite childhood authors to date is Shel Silverstein and his “The Missing Piece” book. If you’re over the age of 10 and have never read anything by Shel, put down what you’re doing and get to the nearest library. You’ve been deprived.
I love this quote although I’m not for sure where it came from; whoever it was must have known me well!
Yup. That’s right.
And just because that design above wasn’t super exhilarating, here’s a cute video called Things to Learn by Matt Edgar. Illustrations are by Christian Borstlap.
If this doesn’t cheer you up, it’s time to go to bed.

After a few photoshop modifications, I’ve finally created a poster for one of the versions of the font I created this summer. If you compare, you can tell that I’ve applied motion blur and a gradient overlay to the font stroke. While it’s interesting at the very least, it still looks slightly commercial. Not sure that I’m stuck on this yet…
I can’t say I’m sad that this is the last day I’m challenging (think forcing) myself to use an image in every design. It’s been a little difficult, and I can’t say that my designs this week have been super impressive, but then again that’s what challenges are for right? That being said, I do really like this design. It’s a little early to tell, but I think geometric shapes are my new obsession. In fact, I’m contemplating dedicating a month just to circles.
Mitch Hedberg is an American stand-up comedian known for his surreal humor and uunconventional comedic delivery. Find more about him on Wikipedia. I really don’t know anything about him other than his beret quote made me chuckle.
