Contemplating habits

Credit KATHY BARBRO

I’m not a huge fan of meat; not for any particular reason. Large chunks of meat make me noxious and I don’t really care for the taste, so it’s not typically a part of my diet.

That being said, I’m lucky enough to have a husband who is willing to go along with my food preferences, so for the past 3 years, we’ve eaten vegetarian at home just because. If we’re eating out, meat finds its way into our dish (we usually share) about 1/2 the time.

More recently however, Vince has been engaging me in conversations about the ethical side of eating meat. Specifically, should we be eating animals who are self-aware? Would you eat a dolphin or an elephant? If you revolt at that thought, should you really be eating a cow? What’s the difference?

The conversation is just beginning for us but I have a feeling there will be more to come.

Go feet, go!

I love to travel.

Jamaica Station NYCFeet at Jamaica Station, the largest transit hub on Long Island and one of the busiest railroad stations in the country with over 200,000 daily passengers

My dad spent a decent portion of his career traveling to interesting places. At the end of every one of his trips, my brother and I would wait with gleeful anticipation to see what exciting souvenir he had brought home for us.

Because of that, it’s no surprise that my dream is to live on a different continent in a country that doesn’t speak English at some point in my life. Until then, I’ll give you feet pictures from my domestic travels.

Feet Travel East

We spent most of last week on the east coast with my husband’s family. We hadn’t seen them since December last year, so it was fun to catch up and spend time playing with our adorable niece and nephews. My sister-in-law is a phenomenal photographer (check out her work here) so it’s no surprise that we’ve got great photos from the trip.

I’m sure it’s no coincidence that I’ve got more than one photo against a blue background, since it happens to be one of my favorite colors. There isn’t much that doesn’t look good against blue.

Hudson River FerryFeet On the Hudson River Ferry from NYC to New Jersey

While most of our week was split between New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, it was fun spend a few hours in NYC and even meet up with a friend. I also realized that while I love the quaint, laid-back vibe of San Francisco, I also kind of love the gritty, fast-paced thrill that is New York City.

As you may have guessed, there’s more feet to come. I enjoy giving context and meaning to all of my feet photos, but there may need to be a feet dump soon. You won’t mind, right?

Things I Hear on Public Transit: Part 3

I love public transportation. Yes it’s dirty and unreliable, but the true gems of public transit are the people. Recently, I started cataloguing some of the amazing things I overhear. Its fun already, isn’t it?

As I sat in the (very public) Minneapolis-St Paul airport waiting on a flight to LA, I felt like there couldn’t be a more appropriate place to post my third installment of Things I Hear on Muni. Unfortunately, the free wifi didn’t agree.

I'm gon' make me some key earrangs
“I’m gon’ make me some key earrings!” exclaimed a woman who gleefully discovered a set of lost keys.
