A little less than 5 years ago, I picked up my life in rural Kansas and moved to northeast Indiana. It took a bit, but because of my husband's connections, I was able to land a job as Marketing Coordinator at a small bank. From there, I moved along to Aptera (thanks to my husband's connections) which is where I stayed for over 3 years as an intern turned team lead.
Once again, thanks to my husband, we've moved across the country. This time, it's been fun to have the opportunity to make my own connections. I've realized that the act of reaching out to business connections, or people you kind of know, or those amazing bloggers / entrepreneurs you respect, provides some of the best connections - as stated by Albert-László Barabási in his book Linked.
While my experience of moving, yet again, across the county has already proven to be amazing, I'm looking forward to the experiences and career opportunities these connections offer.
I've been thankful to join the B'stro team, stay in contact with my friends at ExactTarget in San Francisco, and even make some new friends at Matchbook Magazine, also in the city. As someone famous (or your mom) once said, "You'll never know unless you try." But this time I'm saying, "Take a chance. You'll only regret it if you don't."
