Anyone have $2,000 to spare?

In a few short weeks, my husband and I will be moving from the south bay near San Jose, and into the city of San Francisco. We couldn't be more excited but recently realized that our current bed doesn't fit the dimensions of our gorgeous new studio. Yikes! Our current bed (which we love)

So now we're on the lookout for something sleek and modern to fit our minimalist style and black / white / walnut wood color pallet. After spending just 15 minutes online, I had to close my browser for fear of salivating on my keyboard and ruining it, or dropping over $2,000 on a bed and later regretting it...maybe.

Sadly our price point is quite a bit lower than what these beds sell for when you factor in shipping costs. But a girl can dream right? Here are a few of my favorites:

Haiku Modrest Platform Bed

White leather? Yes please! This is a little too contemporary for my style, but we both love the idea of our bed looking more like a couch since we'll be in a studio. Plus, you can rearrange the headboards — how amazing is that?

Tate Bed by Crate and Barrel

While our color pallet is strictly black, white, and walnut wood with a few bright accent colors, I also have a soft spot for grey.

Vienna Platform Bed

Are you drooling yet? Sadly, this bed is also too wide for the dimensions we're working with.

My Personal Favorite: Co-Op Eco Platform Bed

Isn't this just beautiful? The description calls is an "urban solace", and to top it off, the wood is eco-engineered and treated with natural linseed oil. Sold!

2 Miles of Silicon Valley

When we first moved to California, I knew in my head that we would be at the heart of the famed Silicon Valley. But at at the time, I don't know that I realized just how many well-known companies are sprinkled throughout offices parks and residential areas. They're literally everywhere. While I've gotten used driving past places like the colorful eBay campus, it still boggles my mind every once in a while.

Case in point. This weekend, my husband and I walked from the place our car was being detailed to the movie theater, which was a short two miles away. During our jaunt, we walked past Intel, Cisco, Yahoo, McAfee, and several other well-known tech companies.

Oh, and by the way, if you know of anyone looking for a car with great gas mileage, ours is freshly detailed and up for sale.

Random: Living without TV

I always get all sorts of crazy looks when I mention it, but I grew up without a TV.

Pop culture from the 80's? I only know what I heard on the radio. Cartoons? Don't even bother. My husband claims I grew up under a rock.

Here is what's interesting. I once vowed to read every book in my public library, and got a decent way through. I get to experience pop culture from the 80s and early 90s through someone else. People love telling me about their favorite shows from when they were young. I love the wide-eyed looks I get when I tell people I've never seen Yogi Bear or Wile E. Coyote & Roadrunner.

The best part? I'm married to a guy who had TV growing up, yet we still don't have it. We have the internet.

I'm not a photo person. I enjoy taking pictures for and of other people but am ridiculously bad at taking snapshots of my own life. After moving away from friends and family, my husband and I decided we needed to put more effort into documenting our lives, so I've decided to make a concentrated effort to take a few pictures each week. Here's a peek into our weekend.

We're obsessed with the selection of fresh food at the Mountain View farmer's market. Why buy fruit and veggies at the store when you have access to locally grown, fresh, organic produce?

If there is one image that could sum up our free time, it would be this. *Bonus* You get a sneak peak into my next hand drawn type series to be announced tomorrow!

While frozen yogurt is our go-to sweet treat lately, we've had fun trying other things too. Krunchy Kale is a delicious snack we found at the farmer's market. Forget potato chips — this is healthy and crunchy and surprisingly flavorful.

An update: Gushing over my surroundings

The Bay Bridge which is surprisingly more beautiful than the Golden Gate Bridge It's time I admit. When my husband and I would dream about the great places we would live and the things we would do, California was not in the plans. Not by any stretch. In fact, it was on my personal 'Will not live there' list.

However, when a job opportunity with Apple comes into play, California suddenly flies to the top of the 'I want to go to there' list.

After nearly 2 months of living in this sunny state, I have to admit I'm unabashedly in love. In love with San Francisco.

When we announced our plans to move 37 driving hours away from the state of Indiana, friends and family would congrate Vince, then promptly ask if we were excited to move to California. Up until we actually moved here, our response would be that we planned to stay here for a couple of years, and then move on to other opportunities. However, at this point I (we?) have zero plans of moving in the near future. We both love our jobs, everyone we've come in contact with has been amazing, and who can argue with year-round temperatures in the 60's?

We've secretly become addicted to bread (any type) from Acme Bread Company. It's probably the most expensive, delicious bread you will ever taste

To top that off, in addition to the fact that we're in the heart of a developer's paradise in Silicon Valley, we're also in the heart of a designer's paradise. Try and read a design publication without finding a reference to San Francisco. I dare you.

So to all of our friends and family want to hurry out and visit while we're still here? No rush. If all goes well, we'll be here for a while.

Finally!

I've finally tasted the only food smell I've had since my bike incident a week ago. Oddly enough, it's quiche! Not sure, but I think I've found a favorite new food. (Or at least until this smell / taste deficiency goes away).

5 Years and a cooking class...

This weekend, my husband and I marked our 5 year wedding anniversary. Being the traditional couple we are (not!) we celebrated by attending a cooking class on Friday evening. What a blast!

I can honestly say, I've never had so much fun spending 3 hours with 15-20 other people I've never met. Everyone had a great attitude and we even became fast friends with another couple who worked with us to make our portion of the dinner (Italian meatballs).
