DESIGN #43: W

This weekend I realized my goal of finishing the entire alphabet by the end of February was a little precipitous. Between Friday evening and Sunday I would have needed to design 4 letters and while that certainly would have been possible, I don't want to start focusing on quantity over quality. W was inspired by a gorgeous Blackletter font found on the I Love Typography blog this weekend. Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. The digital version is available for purchase on MyFonts.com as Fette-Fraktur and will probably be my next font purchase.

Completely incidental: I've created a mustache U. Or maybe a bow tie? Either way, love, love, love it.

There's something comforting about this building block style. Comforting like tangram pieces in elementary school. Everything always fits.

I wanted S to be girly because it is made solely of curves. There is something seductive about S. Seductive and snakey. Yes, they always go hand-in-hand.

DESIGN #38: R

R is for rabbit. Rabbits are often used as a symbol of fertility or rebirth, and have long been associated with spring and Easter as the Easter Bunny. The rabbit often appears in folklore as the trickster archetype, as he uses his cunning to outwit his enemies. In Japanese tradition, rabbits live on the moon where they make mochi, the popular snack of mashed sticky rice.
