Today's pattern was inspired by one of my drawings from March - the Woodfly. While the Woodfly looked great in black and white on paper, she's finally in the forest where she belongs. Download NightLight as a high-res Photoshop pattern
DESIGN #56: PRISSYCAT
After only 1 sketch last week, I was admittedly not back onto the sketch a day bandwagon. I've contemplated as to whether I'm allowed to use recovering from jet lag then traveling to Denver the weekend after we returned from the UK as an excuse. It's a poor excuse at the very least, but regardless - I'm back. During the extremely short month of March, I rediscovered my love for "chunky textures" in my drawings and have decided to finish out this week with sketches. According to my schedule, April is to be dedicated to ampersands.
DESIGN #55: RITUAL CREATURE
After a almost 2 weeks, design a day is back on track! We had a great time in the UK and I feel like I should say that it was good to come back but... Today's sketch is like some sort of ancient ritualistic creature. I've included both the normal and inverted versions of the sketch because there is such a stark contrast between the two. The first feels hopeful and almost playful; the second feels sinister or like a bad omen. It's amazing what color (or lack thereof) can do.
DESIGN #54: CAT CHICKEN ELF DOG
We're officially on our way to the UK which means loads of free time waiting in airports. I have a scanner app on my iPhone, so the quality isn't great but because the drawing scanned in with very high contrast, it provides an interesting deviation. Overall, this cat chicken elf dog creature looks much more menacing on screen than it does in my sketchbook.
